ALL SHOOK UP

The Producers may be familiar to audiences, but the New Bedford Festival Theatre’s current production at the Zeiterion takes the story to new heights. While paying painstaking attention to detail in every aspect from casting to orchestration, lighting to set design, the company maintains a light touch, high energy and a seemingly effortless spirit of fun...In less capable hands, The Producers can come across as crass, one-dimensional and even a touch mean-spirited. Thanks to sympathetic characterization and a subtle balance between over the-top humor and moments of true emotion, the New Bedford Festival Theatre reveals the surprising heart at the center of Mel Brooks’ comic masterpiece. Don’t miss it.  MOTIF MAGAZINE

THE PRODUCERS is delightful... Director and Choreographer Michael Susko, reprising his role for the third season, has done a masterful job of helming his troops for this production. Filled with original "stage business" touches and superb choreographic arrangements, the production shines with professionalism and polish.

Michael accepted the vision of my play and then sharpened it to 20/20.  He began to shape the picture that the audience would see in the first rehearsal.  He approached every aspect of the production with a plan, putting everyone at ease.  The cast responded to his quiet style and sense of structure by finding the better actor within them.  Ann Mary Mullane, Playwright-NOT MY DAUGHTER

From the opening curtain, which pauses on the way up to give us an astonishing glimpse of the dance troupe’s perfectly synchronized, smooth-as-silk tap dancing, through rousing set pieces, and to the final bow, The Boston Conservatory Theater Ensemble’s production of
42nd Street is a sensation. Kilian Melloy -EDGE

Festival Theatre Stages a Beautiful
Les Miz--Restaged without the aid of the revolving platform by...Michael Susko, and abetted by the practical and attractive settings by Trevor Elliott and superb lighting by David Kahn, the entire creative team has made the musical version all their own, with inventive movement and stage business that always works to propel the story forward. It is a stunningly beautiful production.--SouthcoastToday

New Candlelight's current production of
Hello, Dolly!, excellently directed by Michael Susko, is a spectacular combination of delightful music, talented acting and impressive choreography. Countypressonline.com

Hello, Dolly! is... a standout production directed by Michael Susko.

Michael Susko directs the cast of 25 in a fast-paced production rich in the high speed comic double takes and humorous entrances and exits and farce.
The News Journal--Hello, Dolly!

"...On the way out I overheard someone say that they had been to countless productions of Dolly! And this was the best one yet."--Richard Holdsworth, Division of the Arts

Michael Susko's sophisticated, dynamic choreography (for)
42nd Street is tight and sassy.  SouthCoastToday

All the shows are really great, but there is something different about this show. The music, the camaraderie and the spirit within the group, I think , is something unique and distinctive. Katya Maiser, development director for the North Country Center for the Arts--

The casting is superb, the singing point on, the sets cleverly assembled and disassembled, but most importantly, you can drink in an ensemble of pros who can actually, truly wildly, splendidly dance!!!--The Sun Chronicle-George M!

It's the dancing that makes this play pop - an energetic tap that you just don't see anymoreBlackberry Valley Entertainment--George M!

...Beautifully choreographed, impressive ensemble numbers--that never fail to dazzle
--EDGE, Providence-George M!--George M!

Kipper (George) has a good voice, but what helps this show as much is his fleet-footed tap dancing, which the company keeps up with in numerous production numbers, choreographed by Michael Susko. All three aspects are on good display in the mock-competitive Irish-pride song and dance number with George and his father, "Harrigan."--The Providence Phoenix--George M!

Choreographer Michael Susko creates some spectacular dance numbers executed perfectly by this huge cast...A special word of praise ...to the incredible tap dances created by Michael. Bravo!--The Theatre Mirror--George M!

Nothing is more exciting and infectious than a stage full of gorgeous hoofers, energetic and beaming, as they "tap-tap-tap" in syncopation to the rousing score of "42nd Street"...Michael Susko's sophisticated, dynamic choreography...is tight and sassy--SouthCoastToday

In a show where dance is the real star, the choreography must be seamless and expressive. It works well, then, that Michael Susko acts as both director and choreographer. Susko uses the whole stage in forming creative routines that hint at the Busby Berkeley origins of the show and are flawlessly integrated into the story. Even the waiters tap offstage when clearing set pieces from a restaurant scene. Particularly affecting is the tap ballet routine during the play-within-a-play performance of the song 42nd Street”--The Harvard Crimson
